Broken Arrow residents Mike Hoover and Boyd Hager, both veterans of the Vietnam War era, have been selected to participate in the upcoming Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight mission on April 14 traveling to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Mike Hoover served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 14, 1968 to July 8, 1970, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5). During the Vietnam War he served in infantry units supporting ground combat operations.
Boyd Hager served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966, retiring with the rank of Petty Officer First Class (E-6). During his service he worked as an aircraft mechanic, supporting Tactical Air Command operations and maintaining aircraft critical to military missions.
Hoover and Hager are among 69 Oklahoma Veterans from communities across the state selected for this Honor Flight mission.
The Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight program provides veterans the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in recognition of their service and sacrifice. The trip is provided at no cost to the veterans, made possible entirely through donations and community support.
Each flight costs approximately $130,000, and more than 200 Oklahoma veterans remain on the waiting list to participate in a future mission.
Community members are invited to attend the public events surrounding the April mission, including the Send-Off Ceremony on April 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa and the Welcome Home Celebration at Tulsa International Airport on April 14, where hundreds of supporters gather to welcome the veterans home.
