As we continually monitor the inclement weather situation and rely on the expertise of weather professionals including, the National Weather Service and Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency, we are confident in always choosing the safety and welfare of our students and staff above all else.
Because of this, we will again be transitioning to distance learning on Thursday, Feb. 3 for all students grades pre-K through 12. All teachers will be providing distance learning from home and will not report to their sites. Additionally, meals will not be provided by the district’s child nutrition team.
Our team had some lengthy discussion in regard to using snow days versus transitioning to distance learning. To remain consistent with our original instructional calendar (which did not include built-in snow days), we decided to stay with distance learning at this time.
The survey that was recently sent out to parents and staff about the 2022-23 school calendar showed a result of over 80% of respondents preferring distance learning days over snow days which also factored into today’s decision.
If we were to use snow days, the last day of school would have been pushed into the following week of Monday, May 23, which is not ideal for semester testing and potential conflicts with family vacations. Our team will continue to discuss all options as the weather situation moves forward into the future.
District offices will close with all ESC and COM employees teleworking from home. All custodial staff and Snow Team personnel will still report to their assigned sites.
We will continue to monitor the weather and driving conditions and will communicate a possible Friday closure by 2 p.m. tomorrow.
