Broken Arrow Police Chief Lance Arnold has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the city announced Wednesday.
City Manager Michael Spurgeon has appointed Deputy Chief Scott Bennett to immediately begin serving as acting police chief while the investigation continues.
Spurgeon said in a statement that the situation with Arnold is a personnel matter and no further comment would be provided while the probe is ongoing.
“The City Council and City Administration recognize and understand the potential interest and questions this personnel decision may generate due to the position’s profile in the community,” Spurgeon said. “Citizens can rest assured that their safety and well-being remain the top priority in Broken Arrow.
“City leadership has complete faith and confidence in Bennett and offers its full support to him to lead the men and women of the Broken Arrow Police Department to continue their duty to serve the citizens of Broken Arrow.”
Arnold was sworn in early last year to succeed Brandon Berryhill, who retired. Arnold was previously chief of the Weatherford Police Department, and also served as the director of public safety and assistant city manager. Prior to his time in Weatherford, Arnold served for 20 years with the Norman Police Department.
