Every month, the Broken Arrow Fire Department teaches community members the American Heart Association’s Friends and Family CPR Course without charge.
The next class is April 17th, and spots may still be available.
Citizens will learn how to perform Hands-Only CPR, how to assist someone who is choking, and they will gain familiarity with automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
This course is intended for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. Each class is limited to 20 people, who are 10 and older, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The classes are held at the Broken Arrow Police and Fire Training Center, 4205 E Omaha St., at 6 p.m. They are recommended for community groups, families, babysitters, and anyone interested in saving a life.
With the launch of the PulsePoint app in October 2017, the Broken Arrow Fire Department encourages everyone to learn CPR, so citizen lifesavers are available whenever needed.
BAFD also encourages local business owners, managers, and civic organizations to contact them if interested in Hands-Only CPR training for group classes. For details, contact Tony McGill, EMS Training Officer, at 918-259-8360, ext. 6215, or by email at tmcgill@brokenarrowok.gov.
