The city of Bixby will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Public Works Maintenance facility on Monday. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will take place at 14875 S. Kingston Ave.
During the 2019 flood event, the current public works facility suffered significant flooding, which prompted the search for a new location. The new building will be situated just northwest of East 151st Street South and South Sheridan Road and offers not only a centralized position but also an expanded area to enable growth and deliver improved services to the residents of Bixby, the city says.

The new facility is located behind the new Bixby Fire Department headquarters, which also contains the city’s new Emergency Operations Center, providing an enhanced ability for response and support during natural disasters or emergencies.
Beck Design worked closely with the city and Public Works Department leadership to design the new public works complex to maximize flexibility, promote work efficiency and account for future growth and expansion.
The five-building facility will accommodate all field personnel from the Streets and Water Departments, provide dedicated space for in-house vehicle and equipment maintenance, and will include a dual-purpose break room that will also serve as a training space.
The design incorporates rugged and durable elements required for this type of complex while also adhering to Bixby’s design guidelines, the city says. The existing metal building structure currently housing Bixby Public Works will also be salvaged and repurposed. The Bixby City Council has selected Miller-Tippens Construction to manage and oversee the construction.
The new complex includes 10,200 square feet for administration and maintenance, 11,902 square feet for vehicle and salt storage, and 16,100 square feet distributed across three buildings for materials and equipment storage.
