The City of Broken Arrow is celebrating the opening of a new 6,000-square-foot Quick Service Fleet Facility at 1700 W. Detroit St. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.
This modern facility focuses on preventive maintenance for the City’s expanding fleet of vehicles and equipment. It will allow technicians to efficiently complete routine services, such as oil changes, tire replacement, and battery replacements in one central location.
“Our goal is to complete oil changes in under 20 minutes for police, fire, and other City department vehicles,” said Maintenance Services Director Ryan Baze. “This facility will help us get them back on the road quickly, minimizing downtime and improving service to our community.”
The Fleet Maintenance Division is responsible for over 1,000 city-owned vehicles and pieces of equipment. In addition to oil changes, technicians will conduct thorough safety checks, inspect brakes and hoses, and check for oil leaks to ensure City vehicles remain in peak condition.
For more complex repairs, vehicles and equipment will be referred to the Main Fleet Facility, where mechanics will handle extensive maintenance and repair work. Previously, all fleet maintenance was performed in a single location.
“This facility will free up space in the main shop and allow us to expand our services to automotive, heavy equipment, and emergency response vehicles,” Baze explained. “Mechanics will focus on major repairs, while maintenance technicians will work in the new facility to keep city vehicles running efficiently.”
This project was a collaborative investment in the City’s future. GH2 Architects designed the Quick Service Building. Magnum Construction completed most of the work, including the foundation and building construction, fire suppression, electrical, and shop lighting. Candor Construction built the manager’s office, breakroom lounge, bathroom, and locker room while the City’s Building Maintenance Division oversaw or installed the HVAC system, lube system, lifts, flooring, and signage. The facility was built at just over $1.1 million, funded in part by the 2018 General Obligation Bond ($612,700), with the Broken Arrow Municipal Authority providing the remaining $536,800.
A Workplace Built for Efficiency and Comfort. The new garage will be staffed by five employees—a supervisor and four technicians. Baze hopes the facility will improve maintenance operations and help recruit new technicians in the future. “Our goal was to create an enjoyable and comfortable workplace,” he said.
The building isclimate-controlledand featuresWi-Fi in the lounge, allowing police officers and firefightersto complete reports while waiting for their vehicles. A clear view of the service area from the loungeensures they can always keep their vehicles in sight.
The concept for this facility has been in development for more than two years, and its opening marks a significant milestone for the City’s fleet operations.
“This facility benefits everyone in the city,” Baze said. “Almost every city employee either operates equipment serviced here or drives a vehicle that will be maintained in this building.”
