Do you have questions regarding the City of Broken Arrow’s fiscal year 2023-2024 budget? Are you interested in how most of the city’s sales taxes are collected?
The OpenGov transparency portal is now available to provide you with the answers.
“We want to be as transparent as possible,” Finance Director Cindy Arnold said. “Bottom line, it’s the citizen’s money.”
The OpenGov transparency portal is a platform that offers financial data in an interactive digital format, allowing users to explore tax dollar expenditures.
“Our budget is sales tax generated, and we want to be able to show people where we spend the money and how it comes into the city,” Arnold said.
The portal provides digital data regarding the city’s finances, including historical data and trends.
“The site allows users to access current budget allocations and to compare previous fiscal budgets from 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024,” Arnold said.
Citizens can access the annual budget in various types of graphs, from percentages, stacked graphs, line graphs, pie charts, and bar graphs. Arnold says there are a variety of categories for users to explore.
“We have the annual budget, actual versus budget, and year-to-date expenditures,” Arnold said.
Users can see the revenues, such as specific taxes, i.e., sales tax, property tax, use tax, franchise tax, electric and gas tax, and their history, as well as expenditures and expense types. Sales taxes are updated monthly.
“You can see 55 percent of our sales tax comes from retail transactions,” Arnold said.
Arnold recommends visiting the City of Broken Arrow website and checking out the portal.
“With the OpenGov portal, you can find out exactly where the city stands financially,” Arnold said. “One of our top priorities is to keep the information accurate and up to date.”
