The U.S. Navy identified a sailor Monday who was found dead onboard a docked aircraft carrier.
Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Darren Collins, 22, died Sunday morning as the USS Carl Vinson was docked at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, the Navy said.
The cause of his death was under investigation but there weren’t any indications of suicide or foul play, a Navy statement said.
Collins was a native of Broken Arrow who joined the Navy in 2019. He attended Information Warfare Training before reporting aboard the Carl Vinson in October 2020, the Navy said.
“My deepest condolences go out to the Collins family in this time of tragic loss,” the carrier’s commanding officer, Capt. P. Scott Miller, said in the statement. “As shipmates we grieve the untimely passing of a talented young man.”
Carl Vinson is currently pier side at Naval Air Station North Island, Calif. It returned to the California area on Feb. 14 following an 8-month deployment.
