Sequoyah Middle School in Broken Arrow was locked down for a period Wednesday after an intruder entered the building, Broken Arrow police said.
Officers responded to the school at 2701 S. Elm Pl. at 1:28 p.m for a reported intruder on campus. School staff followed school district protocol, locking down the school and notifying the Broken Arrow Police Department.
Officers arrived and contacted an adult female in the parking lot of the school. School staff said the suspect entered the building and had brief interactions with a few students.
She was confronted by school staff, who were successful in escorting her from the building prior to officers’ contact.
The suspect, who is not being identified at this time, appeared to be suffering a mental health crisis. She was transported to a local facility for evaluation.
A small child in the suspect’s vehicle was taken by family members for a medical examination and a referral was made to DHS.
As of Wednesday evening the Broken Arrow Public Schools had not issued a statement about the incident.
