Authorities said surveillance cameras played a key role in finding and arresting a suspect involved in a car break-in and shooting over the weekend in Broken Arrow.
According to police, William Cody Moore of Tulsa was attempting a vehicle break-in Saturday near County Line Road and Tucson Street when he was confronted by vehicle’s owner. The Broken Arrow Police Department said Moore shot the owner and fled the scene.
The victim is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
Deputies from the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist BAPD, canvassing the area for a suspect vehicle with a limited description, and the department set up incident command alongside BAPD near the scene.
Wagoner County dispatchers reviewed FLOCK camera data and identified a vehicle matching the suspect description. They dispatchers obtained vehicle registration information, learned the registered owner’s name and sent images of the man — including a photograph and a social media profile image — to Broken Arrow police.
BAPD confirmed the vehicle and individual matched the suspect involved in the incident. Deputies responded to the suspect’s listed address in the Coweta area and searched for the vehicle, to no avail.
A deputy later receive a tip about people Moore was known to associate with and the department identified the individuals and associated residences.
Wagoner County deputies observed a vehicle leaving the suspect’s girlfriend’s residence and stopped it, and confirmed Moore was inside the house.
Deputies and Broken Arrow police called out for Moore to appear and about 20 minutes later he surrendered.
BAPD obtained a search warrant and located a .380 caliber firearm inside the suspect’s vehicle at the residence, which was confirmed to be stolen and linked to an additional series of burglaries in Wagoner County.
“Moore has a lengthy criminal history and is a convicted felon,” the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office said. “Through coordinated efforts and strong interagency cooperation, the suspect was safely taken into custody.”
BAPD also thanked the sheriff’s office and Wagoner Police Department for the assistance.
