March at Northeastern State University brings a sense of anticipation and energy as students, faculty and staff navigate the midpoint of the semester.
As the days grow longer and the weather begins to warm, the campus comes alive with activity. Students immerse themselves in their studies, eagerly anticipating the upcoming spring break as a brief reprieve before the final stretch of the academic year.
In the midst of this busy time, I hope to offer a reminder that NSU is here to serve you. Whether you’re a student, community member or represent a local business, we aim to offer support and services that benefit you.
NSU-Broken Arrow has once again partnered with Goodwill Industries of Tulsa and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free tax preparation services to NSU and surrounding communities. These services will be available until April 13, with the exception of the spring break closure from March 16 to 24.
Certified and trained volunteers will be accessible by appointment to assist individuals who qualify with low-to-moderate income ($70,000 and below) in preparing basic tax returns at both the state and federal levels.
The VITA Lab at NSU-Broken Arrow is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the first floor of the NSU-BA Administration building. Appointments can be made by calling 918.449.6560 or online at https://www.picktime.com/gwt. All participants should attempt to make an appointment, but walk-ins will be allowed if time permits.
Another great opportunity happening on campus this month is “Recovery from the Unthinkable” — the cybersecurity for business drive-in conference. The goal of the conference is to spread awareness of cybersecurity and its seriousness, as well as inform the public of preventative measures businesses can put in place to protect themselves.
This event will take place on March 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the NSU-Broken Arrow Administrative Services Building. For more information, or to register, contact 918.444.4618 or ce@nsuok.edu.
On March 12 the Central Intelligence Agency will be visiting the NSU-Broken Arrow campus as part of the RiverHawk Hired Career, Criminal Justice & Non-Profit Expo. Students have the chance to attend a group info session and sign up for a one-on-one with a CIA representative to discuss job opportunities and other information to get your career started. To register for a session, visit https://app.joinhandshake.com/edu/jobs/8645551.
The spring 2024 RiverHawk Hired Career, Criminal Justice and Non-Profit Expo will take place on March 13 on the NSU Tahlequah campus. This fair, open to all majors and classifications, allows attendees to connect with employers, non-profit organizations and graduate or professional schools to actively pursue or discover a wide range of career paths.

All NSU campuses will be closed from March 18 to 22 for spring break. I encourage students, faculty and staff to take advantage of this time to relax and rejuvenate before returning to finish the semester.
Speaking of our hardworking faculty, please join me in congratulating Dr. Sapna Das-Bradoo who was recently named the recipient of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence 2024 Medal for Excellence in Teaching at a Regional University & Community College Award.
She has served as an instructor on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus since 2011 and is currently interim chair for the Department of Natural Sciences.
Throughout her tenure, Das-Bradoo has prioritized creating an externally funded research program centered around students and has secured over $1.1 million for the university. NSU is grateful for our dedicated faculty who impact our students each and every day.
Remember, there’s still an opportunity to begin or advance your college journey this summer. Many courses are available in person and online to fit your busy schedule. Explore further and apply today at Go2NSU.com.
There’s something for everyone happening at NSU-Broken Arrow this month. Let us lend a hand.
We look forward to serving you soon!
