Summer is moving quickly at Northeastern State University, and soon the halls of all three campuses — including NSU-Broken Arrow — will be filled with students once again. But before we dive into the fall semester, there’s still plenty happening in and around our campus community.
This month, we’re wrapping up the final two stops of the NSU Backers Blitz Tour. The tour is part of the NSU Backers program, launched in January by Athletics Director John Sisemore to support RiverHawks football through fundraising for recruitment, coaching development, equipment and more.
Built on the pillars of recruitment, retention, development and graduation, the program helps elevate the student-athlete experience and strengthen our team.
The third stop of the tour is set for 6 p.m. on July 18 at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. The final stop lands right here on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus at 4 p.m. on July 19. Both events are free and open to the public, with complimentary hors d’oeuvres. It’s a great chance to connect with fellow alumni, meet coaches and staff, and learn how you can get involved. More details are available at goriverhawksgo.com.
Later this month, we’ll mark a special moment on campus with the return of the NSU-BA clocktower chimes. Join us at 2 p.m. on July 23 in the Art Gallery of the Administration Services Building to celebrate.
These familiar sounds are back thanks to the generosity of several dedicated donors, including Dr. Clarence Oliver; Drs. Karen and Pete Dosser; Dr. Stephan Sargent; Drs. James W. and Emily Wilhite; Drs. Anita and Kin Thompson; Dr. Barbara and David Ray; Dr. Amy Aldridge; the NSU Foundation; and the Office of Broken Arrow Academic Support. We are truly grateful for their support.
In academic news, NSU’s School of Social Work has been awarded a $2.3 million federal grant to address the behavioral health workforce shortage in rural Oklahoma. The Rural Recovery and Resilience Social Work Program officially launches this month and will support 15 Master of Social Work students per year for the next four years.
Participants will receive $25,000 stipends during their final internship semester, along with evidence-based training and professional development opportunities. This initiative will allow students to focus more deeply on clinical development while gaining critical experience in areas that need it most. Learn more at nsuok.edu/MSW.
And if you’re looking for a night out, the River City Players are lighting up the stage at The NSU Playhouse in Tahlequah now through August 2. This year’s musical revues, “Platinum Rock” and “Country Gold,” feature chart-topping hits from legendary rock and country artists.
Performances run Thursday through Saturday, with affordable ticket prices for families, groups and free admission for NSU students. Visit nsuplayhouse.ludus.com for tickets and showtimes.
Finally, there’s still time to enroll for the fall semester. Whether you’re exploring micro-credentials, pursuing a certificate, or finishing a degree you started, we’re here to help you Gather Here. and Go Far. Visit Go2NSU.com to explore your options.
Enjoy the rest of your summer—we’ll see you on campus soon!
