OKLAHOMA CITY—The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) announce the Broken Arrow Historical Society has been awarded $5,000 through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program. This funding will support the creation of a new strategic plan for the museum.
“Supporting the preservation and growth of our local historical organizations is essential to ensuring that future generations can appreciate our shared heritage,” said Sen. Christi Gillespie, Broken Arrow.
“I’m pleased to see the Broken Arrow Historical Society receive this grant to develop a strategic plan that will help guide its future efforts. Investing in the long-term sustainability of our historical institutions strengthens our community and preserves our rich history.”
“We appreciate this valuable support for The Museum Broken Arrow,” stated Mickel Yantz, executive director. “This funding is essential for advancing our mission to conserve, promote and disseminate the rich heritage of Broken Arrow as we gear up to commemorate a noteworthy occasion: the 50th anniversary of the Broken Arrow Historical Society in 2025.
“The development of a revised strategic plan guarantees that we will continue to achieve our mission into the next half-century.”
The Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program awarded more than $577,000 to 40 projects statewide this year, supporting initiatives such as collections care, exhibit development, strategic planning and educational programming.
“The Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program is a powerful tool for connecting communities with their history,” said Trait Thompson, executive director of the Oklahoma Historical Society. “These grants help local organizations preserve and share stories that might otherwise be lost, strengthening our shared identity and ensuring that future generations can experience Oklahoma’s rich heritage.”
The grant program supports tribal and municipal governments and not-for-profit historical organizations throughout the state. Awards range from $1,000 to $25,000 for projects that advance the collection, preservation and sharing of Oklahoma history.
Applications for the next grant cycle will open this fall. For more information, visit okhistory.org/grants.
