The family of a road rage victim in Broken Arrow is working to raise money for the man’s medical expenses after a lengthy stay in the hospital.
Jeff Crosson lost his right leg last week after another driver slammed into him at a Broken Arrow restaurant after a disagreement occurred between the two on the road.
Crosson, who lives in Broken Arrow, was exiting his truck at Slim Chickens when the teen-age driver intentionally slammed his sedan into Crosson with such force the impact instantly severed his right leg as he was pinned between the two vehicles.
The juvenile was later located and arrested, after police used images of his car captured by video cameras the restaurant and tips from social media and witnesses. The teen is reportedly facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
A Slim Chickens employee and local police officer created a tourniquet with their belts so Crosson could be transported to the hospital, where he was rushed into life-saving surgery.
Crosson’s leg could not be attached, but he is out of the ICU after undergoing multiple surgeries and in good spirits considering the circumstances.
“We are truly thankful for the strangers that rushed to his side and to the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital,” said Crosson’s brother, Chris.
“Many of you know Jeff, but for those of you who don’t, he is a stranger who becomes an instant friend. He exudes kindness and would help anyone willingly and without hesitation,” Chris said. “He was a truck driver for PODS, and I’m certain each person he interacted with on a daily basis, he brightened their day.”
Crosson’s family — including his wife Wendy, their two adult children Kylie and Max, and grandson, Reid — have put much of their lives on hold to be with Jeff at the hospital.
“We are learning that Jeff has a long road ahead of him, with a lot of expenses that will fall outside of his insurance — from the type of prosthetics he will need, as well as intense physical therapy,” said who is the GoFundMe organizer. “We are hoping to help assist Jeff and his family in this trying time.
“We appreciate those who have reached out and offered to help. We appreciate you keeping Jeff and his family in your thoughts and prayers. This past week has served as a reminder to our family to treasure life with your loved ones and to be safe on the road.”
