Inattentive driving caused a three-vehicle accident on the Muskogee Turnpike on Monday that injured half a dozen people, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said collision happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Muskogee Turnpike, 1.5 miles east of Broken Arrow.
OHP said Ashton Miller, 20, of Perry was driving a 2017 Ram 1500 west on the turnpike in the outside lane and, due to inattention, struck a Jeep Gladiator driven by Travis Boston 27, of Tahlequah. Boston’s car then struck a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder driven by 37-year-old Khadney Payne of Fort Gibson.
Boston and Payne were also westbound on the turnpike, in the right lane, but stopped due to traffic sitting at a standstill due to construction work.
After impact, Miller’s vehicle departed the roadway to the right and came to rest in the westbound lane of the Turnpike access road. Boston’s vehicle departed the roadway to the left and came to rest against the concrete barrier wall. Payne’s vehicle left the roadway to the right and came to rest in the center median.
Miller was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa by Broken Arrow EMS and admitted in stable condition with a leg injury. His passenger, 18-year-old Cheyenne Vaughan, of Perry, was transported by Broken Arrow EMS to Saint Francis, Hospital, treated for head and trunk internal injuries and released.
Boston was transported by Broken Arrow EMS to Saint Francis Hospital, treated for head injuries, treated and released. Passenger Michael Bailey, 54, of Tahlequah was taken by Broken Arrow EMS to Saint Francis Hospital and admitted in stable condition with head injuries.
Another passenger, Alisa Bailey, 34, of Tahlequah, was taken by Broken Arrow EMS to Saint Francis Hospital, treated for head injuries and released.
Payne was transported by Coweta EMS to Saint Francis in Tulsa and treated and released with head, trunk internal and arm injuries.
Two of the three drivers, Miller and Boston, and one passenger were not wearing seatbelts.
OHP was assisted at the scene by Broken Arrow and Coweta EMS and Coweta and Broken Arrow fire departments.
