The investigation of a crash that killed 6 girls from Tishomingo High School is continuing Wednesday, as Oklahoma State Police released the first official update about the incident.
Authorities say a 16-year-old Connerville, Okla., girl was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Spark eastbound on Highway 22 in Tishomingo around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday when it collided with a semi-truck driven by a 51-year-old Burneyville, Okla., man.
The driver of that car, along with two 15-year-old Tishomingo girls and one Tishomingo girl age 17, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Two more Tishomingo girls, ages 17 and 15, were taken by Johnson County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Tishomingo but were pronounced dead, OHP said. The names of the girls who died were not released by OHP as they are juveniles.
The driver of the Spark and the front passenger were wearing a seat belt, but those in the rear of the vehicle were not, OHP said. The driver of the semi-truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Media reports state the driver of the Chevy Spark was making a turn at the intersection when the collision happened.

The National Transportation Safety Board said that in coordination with OHP, the agency is sending five investigators to Tuesday’s fatal crash. They were expected to arrive at the scene today.
