A Broken Arrow neighborhood is dealing with a difficult loss after a young boy was struck and killed by a vehicle in the driveway in front of a residence.
Officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of Sycamore Drive Wednesday at 4:24 p.m. for a pedestrian vs. vehicle collision and found a child deceased in the driveway, said Broken Arrow Police Department Capt. Josh McCoy.
Preliminary investigation showed someone was in the driveway and backing up when the incident occurred, McCoy said. The driver is cooperating with police.
Police declined to share the boy’s age, as family still needed to contact the appropriate people about the incident. McCoy said the driver is associated with the residence but not related to the child, but apparently does know the juvenile’s family. The child was not a student at Broken Arrow Public Schools.
“Everyone there is extremely distraught and we’re trying to give them time to communicate with us,” McCoy said. “We understand the tragic nature of this incident and our hearts go out to the family impacted by this accident.”
