The Broken Arrow Fire Department contended with two house fires on Saturday and knocked them down quickly before damage could spread.
They also dealt with blazing summer heat, as temperatures soared near 100 F during the afternoon as they cleaned up one scene and were summoned to another an hour later. BAFD spokesman Jarrett Hardwick said he wasn’t aware of any firefighters suffering from heat exhaustion.
On the first incident, firefighters responded to the 2800 block of West Oakland Street at 12:26 p.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the two-story house.

The occupants were not home at the time and neighbors called emergency dispatchers. BAFD was on the scene for just over 4 hours.
At about 5:30 p.m., the department was called out again — this time to a fully involved garage fire in the 2600 block of S. Gardenia Ave.
As with the first incident, firefighters were able to knock down the blaze quickly. There was heavy damage to the garage and two vehicles burned but the house was mostly saved.
There were no injuries reported in either fire and the cause for both is still under investigation. The Broken Arrow Police Department assisted with traffic control at both scenes.
