A resident of Wagoner has been arrested for animal abuse after dragging his ex-girlfriend’s dog behind his truck after an argument, the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office said.
Tyler A. Wayman of Wagoner surrendered himself to the Wagoner County Detention Center on Tuesday and was released after posting a $10,000 bond on a single felony charge of cruelty to animals.
In late June, deputies received information that an individual wanted to report animal abuse that had occurred, and an interview occurred.
The individual said stated that on March 2 she and her ex-boyfriend, Wayman, went to a lake in the Toppers area and took her dog. While at the lake, an argument started between the two and Wayman became angry, the individual told deputies.
After becoming angry Wayman allegedly grabbed the dog by the leash and tied the leash to the tailgate of a truck. He then got back into the truck and proceeded to drive away, dragging the dog behind the truck.
The reporting individual forced the truck into the park position, stopping the vehicle, and the woman exited the truck and checked on the condition of the dog. As she was doing so, deputies said, Wayman drove away — dragging the dog again.
The Wayman then allowed the woman and her dog back in the vehicle to be taken home. Deputies said the woman took the dog to a veterinarian immediately after the incident to have the animals’ injuries treated.
When asked why it wasn’t reported sooner, the dog owner was “fearful for any retribution due to threats if it was reported,” the deputies said.
A Wagoner County Investigator went to the location where the incident occurred and took photographs and measurements of the area. It was determined the dog had been dragged a significant distance before being untied and put back into the vehicle.
With this information an arrest warrant affidavit was filed with the Wagoner County District Attorney’s Office naming Wayman alleging cruelty to animals.
