A Wagoner man was arrested after allegedly leading Wagoner County authorities on a chase that ended with him crashing in Toppers.
A Wagoner County Sheriff’s deputy was driving east on Cherokee Street Thursday when he saw a red Jeep pulling a black trailer speeding 35 mph in a 25 mph zone. The deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens and turned around on the vehicle Initiating the traffic stop at Cherokee Street and Casaver Avenue.
The vehicle came to a stop in front of the Wagoner Police Department and, deputies say, the driver exited his vehicle and became uncooperative with the deputy. The driver then got back in the vehicle and fled the scene.
Multiple Wagoner County Sheriff’s deputies and City of Wagoner police officers continued the pursue the suspect into the Toppers area as he allegedly ran multiple vehicles off the road.
The suspect drove down to the boat dock area in Toppers and crashed into a tree while attempting to evade deputies.
The sheriff’s department said the suspect then stepped out of the vehicle while drinking from a beer can and then spiked the beer can on the ground. A short time later he was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver, Solomon D. Carter of Wagoner, was transported to a local area hospital for medical clearance and then taken to the Wagoner County Detention Center on charges with felony eluding, felony DUI second offense in 10 years, reckless driving, speeding and transporting an open container.
The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Wagoner Police Department for their assistance with the apprehension.
