Voters next spring will get a chance to decide if funding should be allocated to transform the site of the former Hansen-Mueller grain silo in the Rose District.
The city of Broken Arrow says a master plan for the expansion of “Rose District plaza,” including the 158-foot-tall silo and adjacent properties, will be on the General Obligation Bond package that goes before voters in April.
The city purchased the silo, originally built in 1962, from Hansen-Mueller in 2024 during an auction for $250,000.
Special Projects Division Manager Shannon Marshall presented the Broken Arrow City Council with two options for the plaza Monday that had similar elements but with different arrangements.
The City Council unanimously chose the first option, which keeps the existing splash pad and aligns the open lawn and farmers market to keep an open layout. The pavilion will be relocated north to a spot on El Paso Street, which will create a boulevard through the plaza.
The option chosen by the city for the plaza will include:
- Double the size of the covered pavilion area to be used during the farmer’s market, ice skating and outdoor events
- Open lawn with a permanent stage
- Encasement of the existing portion of the smaller open depot pavilion for more restrooms and storage
- A designated food truck alleyway
- Additional play features for the iconic logo around the existing splash pad
- Covered seating distributed throughout the plaza
- Marked entry and site improvements at Ash Street from the existing public parking lot
- Custom playground features within the existing grain silo
Marshall a consultant will finalize the site plan and provide an updated cost estimate to ensure it falls within the boundaries of the GO Bond package.
