Saint Francis Health System on Thursday completed a major expansion at Saint Francis Hospital South as hospital officials cut the ribbon on a multi-year, $357 million investment.
SFHS officials said the project — expected to bring a $614 million economic impact in the region — will increases access to care as south Tulsa and surrounding communities continue to grow.
The expansion significantly increases bed capacity, clinical care and surgical space at the hospital. Patients can expect, according to SFHS, enhanced imaging services, expanded critical, progressive and medical-surgical care.
The project also supports expanded cardiology and orthopedic services.
“This expansion ensures we can continue to grow alongside our community,” said Todd Schuster, president of Saint Francis Hospital South. “As the region grows, this allows us to meet patients’ needs with the right space, services and caregivers — now and well into the future.”
The project includes 283,600 square feet of new construction and 51,000 square feet of renovated existing clinical space, as well as:
- Expanded hospital infrastructure
- Additional inpatient beds, nearly doubling total capacity to 194 beds
- New operating rooms, bringing the total to 14
- Doubled critical care capacity
- Significantly expanded progressive and medical-surgical care units
- Enhanced imaging, including additional CT and MRI machines
- A larger hospital lobby
- A larger chapel
- A coffee shop
- New food service and dining space
- Additional parking for patients, visitors and employees
“Caring for a community means investing ahead of growth, not simply reacting to it,” said Dr. Cliff Robertson, president and CEO of Saint Francis Health System. “This expansion is our commitment to families in south Tulsa and surrounding areas that they will have access to high-quality care close to home, both today and in the years ahead.”
The expansion project began in 2019 with a new emergency center. Major infrastructure upgrades followed, and construction on a new patient bed tower began in 2021.
In addition to expanding healthcare access, the expansion will support more than 450 new jobs at the hospital.
An economic impact study from the Tulsa Regional Chamber estimates the expansion will generate nearly $260 million in labor income and contribute more than $350 million to the regional economy, with total economic output of more than $614 million.
Saint Francis Hospital South is a CMS 5-star rated facility. It also earned a High Performing designation in maternity care 2026 from U.S. News & World Report and was named a Top 100 Hospital by Premier.
The community is also invited to an open house on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community members are welcome to explore the new space, take guided tours and visit food trucks.
