A Broken Arrow man who is the former manager of the Muskogee Nation’s gaming division was charged by federal prosecutors with theft and failing to report a significant amount of income on his tax forms.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma alleges in charges filed this week that Michael Anthony Houser didn’t report almost $8 million on federal income taxes, the Tulsa World reported.
Houser faces one count of tax fraud and one count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, according to a charges filed in federal court in Muskogee.
Documents show Houser had worked for the gaming division of the Muscogee Nation since 2011 — initially as an accounts payable manager for the Muscogee Nation Gaming Operations Authority Board before moving to purchasing manager for the Muscogee Nation Gaming Enterprises in 2023.
The charge alleges Houser embezzled property belonging to the Muscogee Nation valued at more than $5,000.
Houser is also is charged with reporting in 2023 to the IRS that his adjusted gross income in 2022 was $471,237 — when he allegedly knew that the statement was false and that he failed to report $7,851,027.28 in income received.
The charging document also seeks the forfeiture from Houser of property he posses, including a boat, luxury vehicles, investment account proceeds, jewelry and proceeds from selling his personal home.
