The Broken Arrow Fire Department Thursday celebrated the opening of its new Logistics Building, a centralized facility meant to enhance efficiency, safety and equipment readiness across the city.
The facility serves as the hub for EMS logistics, housing reserve ambulances, medical supplies, medications, and critical response equipment. It also supports a streamlined supply system, allowing crews to electronically request materials that are prepared and delivered directly to fire stations.
BAFD is one of the largest fire departments in the state, providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) transport services as well as firefighting and other capabilities.
BAFD Chief Jeremy Moore said the facility will allow teams to, “have more of a seamless process to provide for our EMS needs around the city.” The project was approved as part of the 2018 GO Bond package approved by voters.
“With EMS being the majority the calls we receive every day, it was important that we prioritized the need to enhance the logistical side of the operation,” he said.
Previously, EMS logistics shared space with other operations, and as the city continued to grow it created limitations. The new facility provides expanded storage, improved workflow and increased safety for both divisions.
A dedicated production area allows staff to stock and deploy medical supply bins quickly, while an on-site maintenance space allows technicians to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs, which Moore says will reduce costs, minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
BAFD provides fire suppression services, emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation at the operations level, and rescue technician level services within the city’s 105-square-mile fenceline.
