A Broken Arrow police officer was shot early Saturday and the suspected shooter was later found dead in a wooded area, Broken Arrow police said.
Caleb Sherman – a 5-year veteran of the department – was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg and released Saturday afternoon.
The Broken Arrow Police Department says Sherman attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle around 2:40 a.m. around County Line Road and E. Kenosha Street when two suspects fled from the vehicle. Another suspect led police on a brief chase before it ended in the 2900 block of E. Kenosha St.

Police say when Sherman “confronted the suspect” the officer and suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect then fled into a wooded area south of Kenosha Street and was later found deceased. The department is working to identify the deceased suspect and investigators haven’t stated what caused the suspect’s death.
Police are also still looking to contact the two subjects who fled from the vehicle before the shooting happened.
The Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department, Wagoner County Sheriff’s Department, Muscogee Lighthorse Police, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Task Force responded to assist with the incident.
