With spring approaching and a severe weather outbreak potentially happening Friday, the city of Broken Arrow is urging residents considering a storm shelter purchase to register it with the city.
Registration will help Broken Arrow emergency responders ensure that citizens in storm-damaged areas are safe from harm, the city said in a Facebook post.
“If a disaster should strike and tree limbs and other debris cover the shelter or safe room, people could be trapped inside. For this reason, the city is maintaining a register of storm shelters and safe rooms,” city officials said.
Those with a shelter or safe room, new or not, who haven’t registered it with the city’s storm shelter database are encouraged to do so.
In the event of a disaster, early responders will receive a printout of all storm shelters and safe room locations to help them find survivors.
This service is free; simply fill out the online form at https://www.brokenarrowok.gov/government/emergency-management/storm-shelter-registration.
