The Automated Meter Readers (AMRs) installation project which began in March 2016 to replace the City’s more than 38,000 analog meters is nearing completion and is expected to finish up in the next couple of months.
The project is an ongoing effort to provide better customer service and more efficiency. If customers have a round, white and silver disk on their water meter cover, they already have one of the new AMRs.
“The analog meters that we are replacing slow down and under report actual water usage,” Utilities Director Charles Vokes said. “Once the AMR is installed at your residence, you may see a slight increase in your bill because you are now getting charged for what your household actually uses due to the accuracy of the new meters.”
AMRs can also detect leaks in your plumbing system. Once the AMR is installed, if you have questions about your water usage, you can request an hourly graph illustrating usage for a particular month to see when the water use occurred.
The first graph is provided to you free of charge. After that, the cost for the graph is $60. Please call Meter Reading Supervisor Derriel Bynum at 918-259-7000 ext. 7330 if you would like to schedule this service.
