A memorial service, “Slow Down, Move Over” demonstration and benefit dinner is planned Saturday to honor John Mills, a tow-truck driver who tragically died while he was working near Wagoner.
Mills, 31, was loading a vehicle onto his wrecker on the righthand shoulder of southbound U.S. 69 last Saturday when he was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. He was an employee of Red Beard’s Towing in Muskogee.
The memorial service will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Timothy Baptist Church, 5530 W. Okmulgee Ave. in Muskogee.
From 4-5 p.m., a “Slow Down, Move Over” demonstration is planned from the church to Red Beard’s Towing, 2781 W. Peak Blvd., in Muskogee.
The benefit dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Hatbox Event Center, 630 S. 40th St. in Muskogee.
Red Beard’s and Mills’ family have received an outpouring of support this week from the towing community, as well as law enforcement and Oklahomans. Mills’ tow-truck was lit up for 72 hours this week to honor him.
The company, law enforcement and supporters have also been working overtime to remind drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles on the roads.
