National Weather Service survey teams have confirmed EF-1 tornado damage in the Coweta area.
In addition, an EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Beggs. More information about the tornadoes will come later, the weather service says.
The NWS estimated winds from the tornado reached 110 mph, traveled 3.4 miles and its path width maxed out at 700 yards.
The twister touched down at 10:45 pm and lifted at 10:52 pm. It developed near a neighborhood on the south side of Coweta between highways 518 and 72, south of E. 156th St. and moved north-northeast across neighborhood and the high school before dissipating over open county south of the Muskogee Turnpike.
Surveys noted “numerous homes” along the tornado’s path were damaged, in addition several buildings at the high school, businesses, trees and power poles and outbuildings.
Classes have been cancelled for the rest of the week.
