A petition has been started to get improved traffic safety measures at an intersection where a Bixby student died in a car accident last week.
Kinsey Wright, 15, a sophomore at Bixby High School, died in a multi-vehicle crash at 121st Street and Yale Avenue on Oct. 17. A vehicle that was southbound on Yale clipped the vehicle Wright was in, causing it to tip before it was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. Wright later died at the hospital.
Jacob Tucker, 18, has been charged with negligent homicide in connection with the accident.
Kinsey loved sports but her favorite was soccer, as she played with a couple of local clubs — Academy FC and her current club WSA. She also played with her high school team in Bixby.
“I never want another parent to experience the loss that I am going through right now,” said Krista Wright, a Bixby Middle School teacher and Krista’s mother. Friends have put together a GoFundMe campaign together for Krista’s family.
The petition — which already has more than 6,500 signatures — says the accident “highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety measures in our community. We believe that implementing a three-way stop at this intersection will significantly reduce the risk of accidents.”
The petition’s organizers note that data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that intersections without proper traffic control devices are more prone to fatal accidents. “By installing a three-way stop sign here, we can ensure drivers have adequate time to react to oncoming traffic and pedestrians,” the petition says.
“This is not just about statistics or general public safety — this is personal. The loss of Kinsey Wright has deeply affected our community. Her untimely passing serves as a painful reminder that we must do everything within our power to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
“We urge local authorities in Tulsa, OK to take immediate action by installing a three-way stop sign at 121st Street and Yale intersection. Let’s honor Kinsey’s memory by making our roads safer for everyone who travels on them.”
