City officials and the lead developer of the Aspen Ridge development in south Broken Arrow said the public opening of the Reasor’s grocery store is now planned for Nov. 1.
The Broken Arrow City Council recently approved an amended timeline in its agreement with Steve Easley and OakTrust Development for three projects to be completed.
Construction on the exterior of the new Reasor’s building should be done by July, but it will take longer to get the store stocked with equipment and fixtures, so an extra 30-45 days was added, said Assistant City Manager Norm Stephens.
The second item to see a slight delay is construction of the 168-unit multifamily apartment complex. The Council agreed to extend the deadline to Nov. 1, 2026. The development also calls for 200,000 square feet of retail to be built, and completion is now scheduled for by Dec. 31, 2025.
The apartment complex was slated to be finished in April 2025, but Easley said high interest rates are causing construction costs to skyrocket. The rates have climbed from about 2% to over 7%, taking the project’s cost from $24 million when it was announced to $30 million.
Easley said he’s made good on the promise to not build the apartments before the Reasor’s store opens.
“We’ve all worked together. We’ve gone through Reasor’s being bought out. We’ve gone through the cell tower fiasco with an easement that almost cratered the whole deal,” Easley told the City Council. “It’s like the tenacity of my staff and your staff is the only way that this store is about to open.”
With the Reasor’s coming along, crews can soon begin working on the dedicated retail phase of the project.
Easley was at Brookshire Grocery Company’s headquarters in Tyler, Texas recently and learned staff has already been hired for the new Reasor’s location and they are training at the current stores across the area.
“Anything you guys can do from a publicity standpoint — that would help this city more than you realize — is help that store be successful,” Easley said, “because they’re looking at how that store kicks off to determine if they’re going to put more opportunities for future stores in the Broken Arrow community.”
Ward 3 City Councilor Christi Gillespie said she believes the store will draw shoppers from Haskell, Wagoner and other cities, especially those along the Creek Turnpike.
“I think this store is going to be huge. People are excited,” Gillespie said.
“When you see what the inside of the store is going to look like, it blows you away. Every Reasor’s we have in town currently it blows away,” Easley said, noting the playground, food court and outside entertainment area that are part of the new location. “I’m fighting very hard to get more of these in the Broken Arrow community.”
