A driver fleeing from police late Sunday night jumped a curb and crashed into a Sonic drive-through restaurant in Broken Arrow, which is at least the fifth time a businesses has been damaged by vehicles this year.
The incident happened just before midnight at the Sonic on Kenosha Street, just west of Aspen Avenue. Broken Arrow police identified the driver as 27-year-old Kadrain Taylor, who suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital. It’s unclear what he will be charged with as there are no booking charges yet at the Tulsa County Jail.
Two employees inside the building narrowly escaped injury from the incident, the latest in a string of vehicles striking buildings in Broken Arrow.
Last July, a vehicle emerging from a parking spot crashed through the side of Bruno’s Italian Ristorante, which did not result in injuries. In May a driver lost control and plowed into the Taco Bueno restaurant in New Orleans Square, which forced the restaurant remain closed for months.
In March, another car smashed into the front of Old World Pizza in New Orleans Square. The car rolled several feet into the building in the scary incident.
In early January, a vehicle crashed into the front of JADE on Main in the Rose District. No injuries were reported.
The story on Sunday night as relayed by Tulsa Traffic Jams, who was at the scene, is that police spotted the suspect’s blue Dodge Charger speeding westbound on Kenosha Street at over 100 mph. An officer attempted a traffic stop near the overpass of Highway 51 between 23rd and 9th Street but lost the suspect.
Another officer spotted the Charger near Main Street and began pursuit, but the suspect blacked out his vehicle and continued fleeing. A short time later the driver jumped a curb and careened through a parking lot for Advance Auto Parts, plowed through a stand of trees and smashed into the Sonic restaurant, TTJ reported.
The suspect fled the scene but was captured a few blocks away. The Broken Arrow Fire Department arrived on scene to ensure utilities were shut off and the scene was safe from hazards.
