A Tulsa man was charged Thursday for a fatal shooting that occurred the day after Christmas at Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa.
Deonte Michael Crump, 20, faces one charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of 21-year-old Kierstan “KJ” Love, according to Oklahoma court records. Crump is also charged with possession of a firearm while under supervision of the Department of Corrections. Bond for Crump was set at $1 million.
Tulsa police said they responded to multiple calls about a shooting at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday and found Love on the ground with a gunshot wound outside the northwest entrance to the mall, which was packed with shoppers at the time.
Love was rushed to the hospital and died from his injuries just before 11 p.m. Through the investigation, detectives learned the incident started with an altercation inside the mall between Love and Crump.
That led to a fight between them outside the mall entrance, police said. During the fight, police allege, Crump pulled out a gun and shot Love, then fled the scene.
Court records show Crump was facing charges last year of burglary to an automobile, larceny from a person and resisting a police officer stemming from incidents in October and November of 2022.
Crump pled no contest to the charges in Tulsa County District Court and received a 5-year deferred sentence and DOC supervision.
