TULSA — A 1-year-old child and two teen-agers miraculously survived a weekend accident where their vehicle went over a bridge and crashed onto a Tulsa highway.
At 5:08 a.m. Saturday the Tulsa Police Department responded to the 4100 block of Southwest Boulevard after getting reports of a vehicle that crashed off the roadway. Dispatchers said they could hear a child crying at the scene.
Officers arrived to find the vehicle went over the bridge and fallen 15 feet onto the eastbound lanes of I-244 and came to rest lying on its roof.
Tulsa police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol blocked the highway to allow the Tulsa Fire Department and EMSA to access the scene. According to police, the 17-year-old driver was going west on W. 41st Street and missed a stop sign.
The vehicle was then unable to negotiate a slight curve in the road and struck a curb, going airborne over a drainage ditch, crashing through a fence and falling onto the interstate below.
The young girl, who wasn’t in a car seat, the driver and an 18-year-old passenger were all treated at the hospital and released.
