A Broken Arrow police officer has been arrested after a recent domestic incident, the department confirmed.
Tamara Nicole Smith, 30, has been charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation stemming from an incident with her ex-fiancé and been placed on administrative leave. Smith was released Wednesday from the Tulsa County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
In a statement, the Broken Arrow Police Department said it is aware of the arrest and Smith would remain on leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations.
“The Broken Arrow Police Department holds its employees to a high standard of conduct and accountability. Allegations of this nature are taken seriously, and we remain committed to maintaining the trust of the community we serve,” the department said.
KOTV reported that the victim told police the two got into an argument that turned physical and that Smith, “pushed her, grabbed her arms, twisted an arm behind her back, forcibly held her down and ultimately grabbed her around the throat.”
Smith told police there was a physical altercation and admitted to grabbing the victim by the neck but said it was “defensive in nature,” the news station reported.
