BIXBY — Bixby police said their investigation of a child death last year led to criminal charges being filed this week.
Brandon Watkins, the infant’s father, was arrested Friday by the Bixby Police Department on a warrant issued through Tulsa County in connection with the death of the 16-day-old child.
Officers and detectives with BPD responded to Saint Francis Hospital last August regarding an infant who had been admitted with injuries consistent with child abuse.
A criminal investigation was initiated in coordination with an investigation by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
The child died Aug. 4 from the injuries that were sustained. Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish said a “diligent, extensive and complex investigation” led to Watkins being identified as the primary suspect.
Blish said BPD extends thanks to DHS, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office for their “assistance and collaboration throughout this investigation and in advancing the case through the criminal justice process to seek justice in this senseless crime.”
