Bixby City Manager Joey Wiedel was recently arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and has been suspended, city officials said Tuesday.
Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish will serve as acting city manager, “to ensure continuity of city operations and services,” a statement from the city said. Blish has served as police chief since 2021.
The city said it was confirming the incident in keeping with its, “commitment to transparency and open communication with residents.”
Wagoner County jail records show Wiedel was booked at 1:23 a.m. Tuesday and was released shortly before 5 p.m.
As of Tuesday, city officials did not comment on Wiedel’s employment, saying only that the situation would be monitored and updaters provided, “as appropriate.” The city manager’s job in Bixby has seen some upheaval in recent years.
Longtime city manager Jared Cottle resigned in October 2024. Wiedel, the former fire chief and a 21-year city employee, was appointed as interim city manager at the time and given the job permanently by the City Council 5 months later.
