The Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation (BAEDC) together with Tulsa Tech are partnering to raise awareness and introduce students to careers in the healthcare and manufacturing industries during Broken Arrow STEM Camp being held June 12-16, 2023.
During the week-long camp, twenty-two sophomore, junior, and senior students from Broken Arrow and Union High Schools will spend each day engaging with professionals in the healthcare and the manufacturing industries during employer visits.
During the day-long visits, employers will give the students behind-the-scenes tours, engage with the students with hands-on activities, and allow students an opportunity to speak directly to employees to hear first-hand what it’s like to work there and opportunities available to them.
“Workforce is what we hear time and time again as a challenge our employers face”, according to Amber Miller, Director of Talent Attraction and Workforce Development at the BAEDC.
“The Broken Arrow STEM Camp is an opportunity for employers to show our students all the opportunities that are available to them right here in our community in an effort to broaden the pipeline of talent to our manufacturing and our healthcare industries in Broken Arrow”, said Miller.
“Tulsa Tech welcomes the opportunity to partner with the BAEDC. Providing this experience to students aligns with our mission of “Educating People for Success in the Workplace”, said Rana McVay, Assistant Director, Business and Industry Services at Tulsa Tech.
“By hosting the summer camp, it will expose these students to a variety of career paths that they otherwise wouldn’t have been aware of.”
Participating employers include Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Davis H. Elliott, Ascension St. John Broken Arrow, RL Hudson, Zeeco, Inc., Brookdale Senior Living, Council Oak Comprehensive Healthcare, Alfa Laval, Saint Francis Health System, KKT Architects, and Hillcrest Medical Center.
