More than a year after a man was killed in a house fire in Broken Arrow, his grandson turned himself in for the crime, the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Department said.
On March 19, 2023, Wagoner County deputies were dispatched to the 27000 block of East 86th Street in Broken Arrow for a structure fire. The Broken Arrow Fire Department told deputies arriving on scene there was a deceased male inside the home.
With the help of the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office, it was determined that there was not sufficient evidence to charge any specific person with a crime.
The case was assigned to the Wagoner County Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
Wagoner County investigators said that on April 5 they received a call from Joshua Headrick, who told them he was responsible for the fire and death of his grandfather due to the fire he started.
Investigators met with Joshua for a formal interview and determined that there was enough probable cause to arrest Joshua on the charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson.
Headrick was taken into custody and transported to the Wagoner County Detention Center and booked. He is currently being held with no bond.
