A Broken Arrow man has been arrested after violating a protective order and allegedly setting his girlfriend’s home on fire, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office said.
Collin Bradley Leonard was formally charged Monday with second-degree arson and violating a protective order, subsequent offense. Bond was set at $200,000, although prosecutors had asked for a significantly higher amount.
Three days before the fire was set, prosecutors said, Leonard had pled guilty to one 1 count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation, and 1 count of violation of a protective order.
Leonard was sentenced to 2 years probation and again ordered to not have contact with the woman. But prosecutors said that when he was released from custody he began to “continuously contact and harass the victim, escalating in a severity of threats and actions.”
Last Saturday the state was notified Leonard was a suspect in an arson case involving his girlfriend’s home near 91st and Aspen.
The girlfriend wasn’t home because of Leonard’s threats toward her, prosecutors said, and she learned from neighbors her house was on fire. Investigators ascertained the blaze started at about 1:30 p.m.
After speaking with the Tulsa Fire Marshall’s Office, investigators established that Leonard’s make and model of vehicle was seen at his girlfriend’s just prior to the fire beginning.
The victim also confirmed her house had have been accessed by keys or the garage keypad and Leonard was the only person who could have been in her home at that time.
