Two girls from Broken Arrow and Owasso were crowned national champions recently at the 2022 USA Gymnastics Championship in Des Moines, Iowa.
Morgan Murphy, 15, of Broken Arrow, earned the title of National Champion for Tumbling level 9 female 15+. Hill earned the title of National Champion for Tumbling level 10 female 15-16.
Both Hill and Murphy train at Oklahoma Extreme Tumbling and Trampoline under the guidance of coaches Chauncy Hayden and Chavez Hayden.
Both Hill and Murphy traveled to Iowa to represent Oklahoma at the championship, which was held at the Iowa Events Center. Both Hill and Murphy had to first qualify for finals in prelims and then go on to beat everyone in their category in the finals.
“Both girls train many hours a week and hope to move up to Elite level soon,” said Susan Hill, Diamond’s mother.
On the path to Nationals, Hill also earned the title of State Champion and Regional Champion in both trampoline and tumbling level 10 female 15-16.
“She was so excited that she was able to earn the National title on Tumbling as well and earn the triple crown. And what makes the victory for these two athletes even better is that they are best friends and they were there cheering each other on and they got the privilege of seeing each other crowned the national campion,” Susan Hill said.
