The Broken Arrow Police Department says an arrest has been made in the Jan. 18 assault of a student but there is no truth to rumors spreading on social media that the child died.
BAPD spokesman Christopher Walker says the department has received several inquiries about a video of a juvenile assaulting another juvenile. “We can confirm we have investigated the incident, it did not result in a fatality, and we have made an arrest in the case,” Walker said Friday.
“The assault occurred Jan. 18, 2022 at a local apartment complex, not on a school campus,” he adds. “Social media and other rumors are circulating about details of the incident. Our release will hopefully dispel what appears to be widespread misinformation surrounding the situation.
“Typically, we are very careful when addressing juvenile crimes, due to privacy, HIPAA and other rules concerning juveniles.”
The Broken Arrow Public Schools released a similar statement Friday afternoon and said rumors of the student’s death are unfounded.
