After a recent rash of auto burglaries, the Broken Arrow Police Department is reminding residents to lock their vehicles.
Police said they’re seeing an increased number of auto burglaries this year and it’s incumbent on residents to remove all items of value such as guns, purses, wallets, keys, garage door openers, bags, backpacks, personal papers, money and electronics.
The BAPD has already seen 201 auto burglaries reported with an “alarming” 58 guns stolen. “This should be very concerning because these guns are being put into the wrong hands and can be used to commit additional crimes,” said BAPD PIO Jordan Sawyer.
“Nearly 70% of all auto burglaries have come from unlocked vehicles. It is imperative you remember to lock your vehicle. Possibly even set an alarm as a reminder to check your vehicle before staying in for the night.”
Sawyer added that residents must remember to report any suspicious behavior. A proactive approach to reporting suspicious behavior can allow officers to be alerted to a possible crime and intervene before a crime is committed or effecting an arrest on a crime in progress.
For emergencies call 911, and for non-emergencies call 918-259-8400. “Thank you for helping us combat this problem plaguing the Tulsa metropolitan area,” the department said.

If 29% of car burglaries in BA net a firearm, we need to be more responsible. As far as I’m concerned this is insane.
