The city of Broken Arrow says it’s getting ready for any winter weather problems that may arise from the weather moving in overnight and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service office in Tulsa says a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected after midnight tonight and continuing through mid-afternoon Wednesday, with the highest chance for minor travel impacts being across areas along and northwest of I-44 in northeast Oklahoma and in Benton County, Ark.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 3 p.m. Wednesday for snow and sleet accumulations up to 2 inches and ice accumulations up to a light glaze. “If you must be out on the roads late tonight and into tomorrow, take precautions, including slowing down and packing a winter weather safety kit,” the NWS said.
The city said its Emergency Management, Maintenance Services and Street Divisions are combining their efforts and making winter weather preparations in advance to address the hazardous road conditions.
The city has its resources ready with:
- 10,000 gallons of brine ready to pre-treat the roads.
- 2,500 tons of salt ready for after the precipitation falls.
- 14 dump trucks equipped with plows, spreaders, and brine sprayers.
- 5 pickups with plows and brine tanks
“We have a lot of equipment and materials, and the guys are ready,” Streets and Stormwater Director Tim Wilson said. “People will be working 12-hour shifts until the ice and snow are gone off of the roads.”
Wilson said the forecast indicates this storm may be different than the storm in January due to the probability of rain and sleet.
“We may not be able to pre-treat with brine because it will wash off, so we may be waiting until it starts sleeting or snowing and will then treat it with salt at that time,” Wilson said.
Customers of the Solid Waste and Recycling Department’s Wednesday routes are encouraged to place their trash and recycling carts at the curb Tuesday night before the start of the inclement weather which could present slip and fall hazards.
