At the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on Jan. 10, Broken Arrow Public Schools Supt. Chuck Perry recommended changes to the leadership cabinet.
Karla Dyess will now serve as the deputy superintendent for the district, a move from her former role as associate superintendent of instructional services. With more than 25 years of experience in public education, Dyess has served the Broken Arrow area since 1999 in several capacities, including a classroom teacher, site principal and executive director. Dyess is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership from Oklahoma State University.
Larry Shackelford will serve as associate superintendent, moving from his previous role of chief operating officer. Shackelford began his administrative career in 2004 at Porter Consolidated Schools as high school principal, eventually serving as superintendent. He also filled that role at Jay Public Schools. Shackelford has filled many other roles during his career, including high school principal, athletic director and assistant superintendent. His responsibilities will include all maintenance, plant operations, facilities and construction services.
Rusty Stecker will serve as chief human resources officer, moving from his former role of executive director of human resources. He fills the role held previously by Lori Kerns, who is transitioning to lead the community services department. He began his teaching career in 1994 here in Broken Arrow and eventually served as the varsity boys head basketball coach and associate athletic director for the district.
Steve Dunn will now serve as chief student engagement and public relations officer, moving from his prior role as executive director of athletics. He has served in this role for 4 years after leading district operations in Owasso Public Schools for two years. He began his teaching career here in BA in 2010 and also served as the assistant principal at Oliver Middle School. Current associate athletic director, Darren Melton, will serve as the new executive director of athletics. Amanda Snider will move up from her assistant athletic director role into associate director.
“I am confident that the experience and excitement of those in their new roles will not only keep us on a path to success but will also open doors for new endeavors within our district to keep students on the roadmap to excellence,” Perry said in a statement Tuesday. “I am humbled and honored to serve alongside the entire cabinet leadership team in this wonderful school district I call home.”
