Phase I of the Albany Street (61st Street) widening project, between 23rd Street and 37th Street, is making significant progress and is now between 50-60 percent complete. The single-span arch aluminum bridge is now in place over Lone Star Creek, and the contractors are now starting to backfill around the bridge.
Phase I of the project includes the construction of approximately 1,000 feet of asphalt roadway widening from two lanes to five lanes or two lanes with asphalt shoulders. The project also includes driveways, drainage culverts, a sidewalk, curb, and gutters.
In the next two weeks, the installation of the aggregate base immediately around the aluminum bridge will be finalized, and the dirt work phase will begin according to City of Broken Arrow Construction Manager Timothy Robins, P.E. The new roadway profile will also be installed, as well as the new curb, gutter, and driveways in the coming weeks. Though the road is closed to through traffic, residents have local access from either 23rd Street or 37th Street.
Tri-Star Construction, LLC, is the contractor on the project with a total bid of $1,644,000, paid for by the 2018 General Obligation bond. Phase I is expected to be finalized before the start of school on August 18. That section of Albany Street provides access to the new Vanguard Academy, which is Broken Arrow Public Schools’ new STEM academy set to open this fall.
