Family members and well-wishers from Broken Arrow to Wagoner are continuing to mourn the loss of Carter Mullins, an 18-year-old former Wagoner High School student who died in a motorcycle crash Thursday.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help his parents – Jerrod, who is a Broken Arrow firefighter, and Jessica.
“During this unprecedented time for Jerrod and Jessica due to the loss of their amazing son we have had numerous people reach out that wanted to support the family financially,” said Ashley Mullins, the organizer who created the fund-raiser Friday. A meal train has also been set up for the family for the next few weeks.
An organizer of the meal train said Mullins was “just learning how to navigate the world on his own. Carter had the kind of personality that was always up for a good time. He was surrounded by a loving family and close knit group of friends.”
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Mullins died during a 2-vehicle accident on Highway 51 just east of Wagoner. OHP said Mullins was headed eastbound at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle struck the rear of a minivan. Troopers said the cause of the accident was Mullins riding at an unsafe speed.
In a statement on Facebook late Thursday, Wagoner Public Schools said the loss of a former student was heartbreaking.
“Carter was a treasured member of our school family, and we extend our sincere sympathy and support to his loved ones and friends during this difficult time,” the district said. “Carter was loved by so many, and his passing is difficult for us all.
“Wagoner is a close-knit school community. In our school family, no one experiences pain or loss alone. Our students, parents and staff take pride in caring for one another. Please continue to keep Carter’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”
