Joey Moppert, a Tulsa resident and life-long fan of Kilwins, announced plans Tuesday to make Broken Arrow “even sweeter” by opening his own Kilwins store in the Rose District by mid-March. The confectionery and ice cream shop will be located at 217 S. Main St. in Broken Arrow.
“When I was a little kid, my family took me to Kilwins during a vacation in Northern Michigan, and I’ve loved their ice cream ever since,” said Joey, noting that Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream is his favorite. “When I heard that Kilwins was franchising and expanding, I jumped at the opportunity to own a business that brings so much joy to so many people and is so much fun. I worked for years to put the pieces together so that I could pursue the dream of owning a Kilwins store, and now it’s coming true.”
Joey earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Tulsa, and most recently, he works in the oil and gas industry. He has teamed up with his longtime friend, Paige Allen, to run the day-to-day operations of the store.
He also partnered with local artist, Melinda Babb, who designed and painted a mural in the store, serving as a wonderful nod to the Broken Arrow community.
Mopper says the Rose District is a good place for the “irresistible smell of our freshly made waffle cones, to the sights of our hand-paddled fudge demonstrations, to the tastes of our chocolate truffles, fudge slices, ice cream and other treats. Kilwins is a full sensory experience that will delight Broken Arrow’s neighbors and tourists.
“I can’t wait to see the joy and excitement on everyone’s faces when they come in and experience our store.”
Kilwins is famous for its assortment of hand-crafted chocolates, creamy, hand-paddled fudge, caramel apples, caramel corn and brittle, chocolate-dipped treats, and premium ice cream, all made with the finest ingredients. The store will feature Kilwins’ latest treat, the Chocolate-on-the-Inside Waffle Cone. Crafted in-store with the exclusive Chocolate-on-the-Inside Fountain, these waffle cones are lined with warm, velvety Kilwins Heritage Chocolate, offering a uniquely Kilwins experience.
