The museum’s board announced on Facebook that the museum’s board of directors had chosen Janna LM Rogers as the new director.
The board said Rogers’ passion for history and the arts trace to an earlier career as marketing director of the Diane Woodruff museum and art galleries.
During that time, she also served as an ambassador for Philbrook Museum of Art while sitting on the community volunteer board.
Rogers is founder of ONAN Cross Cultural Forums and understands herself as a “steward of shared history.” She interned with the Gilcrease Anthropology Department and conducted research for the Stillwater Museum of History at the Sheerar.
Rogers has a doctorate in U.S. history with a focus in public history, which includes a graduate certificate in Museum and Curatorial Studies. She will complete her doctorate with Suma Cum Laude honors bestowed upon her by Oklahoma State University in May of this year. Rogers’ academic background includes serving as a Graduate Teaching Associate throughout her master’s degree and PhD.
As a graduate research assistant, she worked with Special Collections and University Archives at Edmon Low Library managing the Maxine and Jack Zarrow Art Collection while working with metadata and a team of experts who produced a web portal for accessing the catalogue online.
According to the board, Rogers pulls from a wealth of experience and brings creative ideas to serve the people of Broken Arrow. She emphasizes that The Museum Broken Arrow is one of many assets that inspire people to call this community their home.
Gary Gerber, the MBA Board President, said he was impressed with the various areas of museum work that Rogers has experienced. He states the museum feels fortunate to have Rogers come aboard as executive director due to her to education, experience and especially her enthusiasm.
