Students at the Primrose School of Broken Arrow donated 405 books inside 125 goodie bags to local children in need at St. Francis Children’s Hospital Thursday in honor of Read Across America Day and Week. The books were collected through Primrose Schools’ annual book donation drive and fair.
The event included community leaders Gia Patel, Franchise Owner; Alisha Jones, School Director; Education Coach Michelle Wheeler; Assistant Director Cayse Blaylock, and Curriculum Coordinator Erinn McConnell.
The activities celebrated Read Across America Day, which raises awareness of the importance of reading and celebrates a nation of diverse readers.
“Primrose Schools literacy goals directly align with those of Read Across America Day, and we hope that celebrating this day and week will encourage parents to establish a regular reading routine with their children and help those in our community recognize the power of early literacy,” said Patel.
Primrose School of Broken Arrow book donation drive is a part of Og’s Bountiful Books, a Primrose service-learning project that encourages parents and students to read together at home and share favorite stories with classmates and underserved children.
The book drive is part of the school’s social responsibility activities — referred to as Primrose Promise Giving Events — embedded within Primrose Schools Balanced Learning curriculum. The drive is designed to help students learn the importance of giving back to their community through hands-on giving activities and projects.
